His pieces appear in playlists called Peaceful Moments or Songs to Think Deeply ; the covers of his albums are often his own analog photographs, and he draws inspiration from nature. Ludovico Einaudi seems to have been a born romantic, but within classical music he is considered a rebel. There, strict rules, atonal sounds, and narrow structures count. Einaudi's music, on the other hand, is freer, as catchy as pop ballads and just as popular. He wrote the soundtracks for The Intouchables and Nomadland , his compositions have been streamed millions of times, and he is considered one of the most commercially successful composers. In the 1980s, Einaudi studied at the Milan Conservatory and composed classical music, but "my world seemed stranger and stranger to me," Einaudi says of this time. He began to experiment, studying the structures of pop songs by Radiohead and PJ Harvey, and doing his own thing. His latest album, The Summer Portraits, was released in January 2025. Inspired by paintings he found in a villa on a trip, it is intended to capture memories of his childhood summers. Einaudi probably wouldn't win the acclaim of his former teachers with this album, but it will win the acclaim of the masses. The concert on May 31 at Berlin's Waldbühne is sold out.
