INSIDER TIP: If available, consider booking a Deluxe Family Bungalow, which features built-in bunk beds and separate bedrooms for the adults.
Domes Zeen Chania is a new-generation family-friendly hotel: a place where the design is as exciting as the kids' activities, and parents can relax and unwind in beach clubs—even if their offspring are starting a water fight in the smooth, black-tiled pool. Originally opened as Casa Cook Chania a few summers ago, Domes Zeen ticks all the boxes. From a modern reception building that wouldn't look out of place in Palm Springs, concrete villas cascade down the hillside—the work of the sought-after Athenian architects at K-Studio (who also ran the popular Scorpios beach bar on Mykonos ). The pool is where the action is: families camp on one side, near the kids' club; couples doze under thatched umbrellas on the opposite side; and the pebble beach lies just beyond. Not only is the outdoor area catered for, but all guests and their needs are catered for: There are rooms with a window seat that can be cleverly converted into a third bed, and villas with multiple rooms, all with private or shared pools. The interiors feature muted textiles and rattan elements that are both beautiful to look at and cozy, as well as child-safe.
The club is equally thoughtful, with an eco-conscious, Montessori-led, creativity-enhancing ethos. Activities include making tic-tac-toe sets from painted stones and cardboard castles, decorating photo frames with seashells, baking cookies, and practicing yoga. Families gather for excursions to Chania, with destinations such as the Kross coffee roastery and the Ginger Concept restaurant/shop, or a boat trip to Loutro (a tiny, whitewashed village on a turquoise bay further south). Back at the hotel, the all-day Beach House offers healthy Cretan fare: from breakfasts of homemade oat bowls, local cheeses, and pastries to hearty, slow-cooked pork belly and homemade Kalitsounia cake for dinner. New this year are the smaller, fancier Estia restaurant and an Elemis-supported spa. Greece has long been the perfect destination for a family holiday, and Domes Zeen Chania proves why.
INSIDER TIP: The rooms—except for the top villa—do not have bathtubs, so ask for a baby bathtub (and other equipment to save space in your suitcase) before you arrive.
Many of Santorini's whitewashed hotels are limited to adult honeymoon stays, which is why the Andronis Arcadia —one of five Andronis properties on the island—is a real find for families. The children's hotel's suites retain the island's authenticity, with bright, white, and earthy-neutral interiors that look as if they were carved from the rock. With only suites and villas, there's room for the whole family—the largest villa can accommodate up to 12 people.
