The recent UK weather might have tricked you into thinking it's already summer, and if this mini heatwave has got you planning your summer holidays, you're not alone. But why splash out thousands on a foreign escapade when there's a UK seaside town so stunning it's been likened to Italy's Cinque Terre?

Staycation gurus at holidaycottages.co.uk have unveiled their selection of UK beach 'destination doubles' for a bank holiday weekend getaway, and this beach made the top five.

This beautiful northern town boasts a breathtaking beach flanked by red-roofed cottages and rugged cliffs, but with only a fraction of the crowds of the Italian holiday hotspot.

Runswick Bay in Yorkshire is the perfect summer staycation for Brits wanting to keep it local this year.

In addition to the gorgeous beach, the bay also provides excellent opportunities for coastal walks, fossil hunting, and exploring charming local cafes and shops, making it a serene and delightful retreat.

The beach is part of the renowned Jurassic Coast, making it a prime spot for fossil hunting. Plus, it's dog-friendly all year round, so you can bring your furry friends along for a family day out.

For those who love the great outdoors, Runswick Bay has plenty to offer.

The Cleveland Way National Track to Saltburn spans 110 miles from Helmslet to the Brigg at Filey, passing through the infamous smuggler's village of Robin Hood's Bay and popular seaside resorts like Scarborough and Whitby.

You'll be spoilt for choice with breathtaking views.

Fishing enthusiasts will find the waters of Runswick Bay teeming with cod and mackerel.

And if you're lucky and patient, you might even catch sight of seals, dolphins and whales frolicking in the cool blue ocean.

These marine creatures have all been spotted in the waters, which are excellent for fishing.
