Can Sweden Remain a Summer Refuge as Extreme Heatwaves Spread North?

Record-breaking heatwaves in Sweden, Norway and Finland this summer showed how climate change could reshape even the world’s northernmost destinations.

But Sweden’s tourism chief says the impact on tourism has so far been minimal.

For two weeks in July, temperatures across parts of Scandinavia exceeded 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), far higher than seasonal norms.

Researchers at World Weather Attribution concluded the heatwave was at least 10 times more likely due to climate change. It was also around 2 degrees Celsius hotter than it otherwise would have been.
