Meta announces Blumhouse Horrorverse experience for Horizon

Meta revealed today that it’s building a social experience for its Horizon VR platform called Blumhouse Horrorverse. It features characters and locations from some of the production company’s most popular horror franchises, including The Purge, Wolf Man and Happy Death Day, all set inside a theme park-like setting. Blumhouse Horrorverse launches on Meta Horizon on May 22.
The Horrorverse experience’s spooky theme park is set in a foggy forest with the production company’s titular edifice at the center. It features a screening area for exclusive content, macabre minigames themed around some of the franchises — such as target practice inspired by The Purge — and several environments inspired by the franchises.
One of the biggest parts of the Horrorverse is the Survival Lockdown game that’s inside the Blumhouse itself. When one player flips a lever, everyone inside the house is locked inside and randomly assigned the role of either villain or victim, Dead by Daylight-style. Victims must try to escape; while villains, who can be characters like M3GAN or Babyface, try to off the victims before they can do so.
It’s not Blumhouse’s first venture into gaming, as it broke into the scene recently as a publisher with its Blumhouse Games label. This subsidiary works on indie games not based on Blumhouse franchises, and it announced six games at Summer Game Fest 2024, including last year’s Fear the Spotlight.
