The Boys fans urged to watch 'bonkers' forgotten Netflix show with 87% on Rotten Tomatoes

A television 'masterpiece' born from the creative mind of Seth Rogen is garnering praise from Netflix viewers almost a decade after it first aired.
Netflix enthusiasts are rediscovering the hidden gem, which boasts a talented cast, including Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, and Joe Gilgun, drawing comparisons to Eric Kripke's Amazon Prime hit series The Boys.
While Rogen is perhaps best known for his comedic roles in films like Superbad and Pineapple Express, he has also demonstrated his skill as a filmmaker, with his AppleTV+ show The Studio receiving glowing reviews.
It's little surprise, then, that fans are now diving into one of his lesser-known projects, Preacher, which initially premiered on AMC in 2016 and ran for four seasons until its conclusion in 2019.
Preacher is based on the 1990s comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, mirroring the origins of The Boys, which was also conceived by Ennis, this time in collaboration with Darick Robertson, reports Surrey Live.
The Rotten Tomatoes synopsis is as follows: "Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church.
"Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power.
"Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters."
Although not a Netflix original, the streaming giant has all four spine-tingling seasons at the ready for a marathon viewing session.
On Reddit, enthusiasts have been spreading the word about their love for the show, urging fellow Netflix subscribers to give it a try if they're on the hunt for a fresh show to try.
One fan sang its praises, penning: "It has everything a show needs. Tons of action, comedy, some drama. It's totally different from other shows. If you liked The Boys you'll love it."
Another fan chimed in with their endorsement, writing: "It's almost as bonkers as the comics. Pretty good show."
The critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes is similarly glowing, with one reviewer raving: "Uninhibited, gory, genuinely creepy and ridiculously good fun."
A second critic echoed this sentiment, writing: "A truly amazing show, everything is in its right place and it is never boring."
Meanwhile, a third audience member noted that while "the violence was too much" for them, they couldn't help but enjoy it.
Boasting an impressive 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Preacher is undoubtedly a must-watch. One ardent fan even went so far as to proclaim it the "best show on television".
All four seasons of Preacher are available to stream on Netflix US now. UK fans can download episodes via Amazon Prime, Apple TV+ or the Sky Store. The Boys is available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime.
