Unboxing the new 75” Hisense ULED U8QAU in the DMARGE office was one of those moments that instantly makes everything else feel… inadequate.
Our old TV was a decent size for what we needed it for: catching up on Oscar Piastri wins or the WSL heats throughout the year. But what once seemed massive suddenly looked like a forgotten iPad left leaning against the wall. Simply inadequate.

However, after a few weeks of playing around with our new addition, we quickly realised that the new Hisense’s size was just the start of what to expect. It’s the guy she told you not to worry about. A screen so sharp, so vibrant, and so impossibly smooth that going back to anything else feels like squinting through a sudden Sydney storm.
Powered by Hisense’s Mini-LED PRO backlighting and a Hi-View AI Engine PRO, the picture quality is so clear. Every frame is remastered in real-time with AI, enhancing skin tones, shadows, and background depth. The Pantone-validated QLED display renders colour so vividly that Red Bull’s livery practically jumps off the screen.

Each frame is calibrated with over a billion shades of colour, which means the final picture is hyper-realism like I’ve never seen before in an at-home display. It’s the kind of picture quality that only Christopher Nolan can achieve. And at the rate at which we all consume our litany of streaming services every day, that’s worth its weight in gold.
The installation process takes less than a couple of minutes, once you’ve connected to your Wi-Fi. The channels find their place in the system and the technology arrives with all your favourite apps already pre-installed. It makes streaming content effortlessly seamless.

Hisense’s VIDAA OS is simple, fast, and does what most smart TVs try and fail to do: it works first time, every time Netflix, Disney+, and Kayo load fast, while built-in voice control means you can switch from sport to movies without touching the remote, which, by the way, charges via USB-C or the sun. No batteries. No last-minute panics.
And thanks to Anti-Reflection PRO, it stays that way throughout the entire day. The Australian sunshine beamed through the office, and we couldn’t have noticed a dip in quality. We didn’t even bother closing the blinds; the glare just wasn’t a problem.
For the gamers, Hisense’s U8QAU is the first Mini-LED TV to support a 165Hz refresh rate in Australia. It may not sound significant outside of the installation, but if you’re even remotely serious about your PlayStation or PC setup, that’s an instant upgrade on anything you have right now.

We tested it with a gaming laptop via the USB-C input (which also charges your gear while casting), and it handled 4K at 165Hz like a champ. Motion was liquid. Lag was non-existent.
It’s also the first time we’ve used a TV where we didn’t immediately reach for a soundbar. With 4.1.2 Multi-Channel Surround Sound, the Hisense throws out legit cinema-grade audio. Explosions sound like they’re coming from above, bass rumbles through the floor, and dialogue is crisp even in the most chaotic Guy Ritchie scene.
We later paired it with a Hisense soundbar to test Hi-Concerto, which syncs the two perfectly, and the result was like levelling up into IMAX territory… which, considering the new Hisense is IMAX-Ready, I’m not entirely surprised.

And look, yes: a 75-inch TV might sound ridiculous until you live with one. It’s exactly how we thought this might go when we first got the green light to install the new Hisense U8QAU.
With billions of shades of colours, cinema-level surround sound and Filmmaker Mode, it’s arguably the best big-screen experience available in Australia today.
If you care about what you watch (not just what it is, but how it looks, sounds, and feels), the Hisense U8QAU is what you upgrade to. It’s smarter, faster, smoother, and bigger. And trust me, once it’s mounted on your wall, you won’t be the only one watching in awe.
