THE RUNDOWN

  • Sabrina Carpenter brought the butter yellow trend into fall with a cozy, no-pants look in New York City.
  • The singer wore an oversize off-the-shoulder sweater as a minidress with a yellow Chanel bag.
  • The monochromatic outfit comes as she prepares to host and perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

If anyone can make “sweater weather” glamorous, it’s Sabrina Carpenter. On Tuesday night, the singer stepped out in New York City in a butter yellow look that turned a simple knit into a statement piece.

Carpenter wore an oversize cable-knit sweater in the pastel yellow hue, styling the piece as a micro-minidress that offered a pants-less take on fall layering. The off-the-shoulder neckline and relaxed silhouette balanced out its shorter hem.

The Espresso singer tied the monochromatic look together with a matching Chanel flap bag, yellow socks, and open-toe heels adorned with sparkling brooches. Her blonde curls were worn down and framed a natural, glowy makeup look punctuated by warm blush and a glossy lip.

Carpenter’s choice of color is further proof that butter yellow has evolved into a year-round neutral. Its softness offers a lighter alternative to the season’s usual browns and grays.

It was a fitting choice given the shade’s runway resurgence, seen most recently at Chanel’s spring/summer 2026 show—Matthieu Blazy’s debut for the house—where the color appeared in floral knits and sharply tailored coats.

Carpenter wore the look just days before her Saturday Night Live hosting debut this weekend, where she’ll also serve as the evening’s musical guest. The appearance marks another milestone in a breakout year that’s included an international tour, multiple awards, and a collaboration with Taylor Swift on The Life of a Showgirl.
