BBC Radio 2's Sara Cox exposes true feelings on co-stars

Sara Cox has shared what she really thinks about her co-stars at BBC Radio 2. The 50-year-old opened up about who her "best friend" is in the workplace and gave her honest thoughts on her job as a radio broadcaster. Sara has hosted the weekly drivetime slot since January 2019, and previously presented BBC Radio 1's breakfast show. Speaking exclusively to Express Online, she candidly spoke about meeting up with her colleagues once a year for social drinks, and her latest campaign about getting the nation re-energised with a series of early morning wellness raves.
Speaking about her colleagues, Sara said: "It's always nice when we have the DJ drinks. We meet up once a year, and in the buildup, I'm always really nervous because I'm kind of quite socially anxious and awkward. I used to think that's when you need to get a glass of bubbles in your hand or something that just eases you in for the first time.
"But what I've learned since not drinking so much these days is that actually, you just need to acclimatize to the room for 10 minutes, and you can have a fizzy water, and you don't actually need to have a drink to be able to relax.
"I'm always nervous before it, and then at the end of the evening, I'm always like 'That was actually really lovely' because I don't really cross paths when they do breakfast.
"I'll get to see Vernon [Kay] then, and I'm loving it because Trevor's on before me, I love Trevor [Nelson]. So it's nice to see him around the building."
She then revealed: "But my actual best mate from Radio 2 is Jeremy Vine. We sometimes go on a double date with his wife, Rachel and me and my husband Ben.
"What's quite funny is that I see him as a mate, and he always describes me as a work friend, and now I do take the mickey out of it, but I'm like, 'OK, let's just be clear, I'm your work friend, not a proper friend.'"
Sara is also currently working with Holland & Barrett to re-energise the nation after research showed that 3 in 4 Brits wake up tired. The retailer has launched online consultations and trained a 4,000-strong Energy Squad to provide free advice on how to improve and sustain energy levels.
The radio presenter is to headline ‘H&B Sunrise Sessions’ – a series of early morning wellness raves across the UK that will charge the nation from sunrise to sunset, energising their minds through music, powering up their bodies through movement, and encouraging reset through sleep and nutrition.
Speaking about the campaign, she said: “I’m thrilled to be headlining H&B’s Sunrise Sessions and help energise the nation. My personal wellness journey has seen me swap late nights for early morning workouts, healthier nutrition and sleep routines. I’ve found the combination of the things I love - music, movement and morning twilight has helped me to improve and sustain my energy levels throughout the day. I look forward to sharing the experience with morning ravers this summer.”
H&B Sunrise Sessions tickets cost £10 per person and can be booked HERE.
