All We Know About Zendaya’s East-West Diamond Engagement Ring From Tom Holland

Hours before Zendaya’s engagement to Tom Holland was confirmed, the actress gave photographers a very clear look at her engagement ring at the Golden Globes. People reported that the ring appears to be London jeweler Jessica McCormack’s 5.02 carat east-west cushion diamond button back ring, which is available on its site.
No price is publicly listed, but the jeweler describes the ring as being “a button back ring with a 5.02 carat east-west cushion diamond, set in a Georgian style cut-down setting in 18k white gold and yellow gold.” (DeuxMoi ran a blind item claiming the ring was worth over $200,000.)
Multiple jewelers released statements where they estimated the value of the sparkler. Guesses varied, but all were over $100,000.
Jared Jewelers’ vice president of merchandising, Ann Grimmett, said, “The ring Zendaya wore appears to be a 5-carat old mine cut, set east-west in grey or black gold on a yellow gold shank. Simple, yet stunning, this ring would likely retail around $120,000. This highlights a growing trend of old cuts.”
Neil Dutta, managing director at Angelic Diamonds agreed the ring appears to be around five carats in an east-west setting. This choice “is particularly clever, as it makes the stone appear larger and more unique than a traditional north-south orientation,” Dutta said. “It also allows more light to enter the stone, enhancing its overall brilliance and sparkle.” In terms of value, “based on our analysis, this stunning piece is closer to $250,000—a figure that perfectly reflects the exceptional quality of a high-end cushion-cut diamond from a designer like McCormack.”
Steven Stone jeweler CEO Zack Stone said the ring seems larger to him, nearing six carats. “I’d estimate the exquisite piece to be worth $300,000, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was worth even more.” The setting on the ring has a telltale sign it’s from Jessica McCormack, as it features “a button-shaped metal piece at the back of the setting. This signature design by renowned London jeweler Jessica McCormack is crafted to ensure the diamond or gemstone sits comfortably against the skin,” Stone said.
Jeweler Laura Taylor of Lorel Diamonds put the ring in the 5-6 carat range as well. “The diamond appears to be of excellent quality, likely VVS clarity and near-colorless (D-F), which would place the ring’s value at approximately £300,000-£400,000 ($370,000-$500,000), depending on whether it is natural or lab-grown,” Taylor said.
And over six months later, the ring is still influencing engagement trends.
Grimmett of Jared Jewelers told ELLE, “There have been several clear trends in engagement rings over the past three to five years. This includes bigger stones, elongated fancies, delicate bands, exploration of east-west, and yellow gold. These trends were emerging and then were accelerated by celebrity engagement rings. Zendaya’s ring…connects to the broader trend of elongated and fancy cuts. Zendaya highlighted a ‘what's old is new again’ trend and made east-west more mainstream.”
Lauren Boc, founder and CEO of Hera Fine Jewelry, has seen the impact with her own clients who “are gravitating more and more toward bold, visually distinctive designs like Zendaya’s east-west collet setting,” she said. “With the rise of lab-grown diamonds, people are looking for ways to set their ring apart beyond a large diamond. The wide, unique bezel and east-west orientation make this ring stand out—a perfect fit for her style and current trends.”
Steph Mazuera, who founded her own namesake brand, believes that Zendaya’s ring, which “perfectly balances antique and vintage inspiration while maintaining a modern edge,” has helped “open people’s minds to new styles they may not be familiar with.”
