Aid trucks set out from Kocaeli for Gaza

Speaking at a ceremony held in a parking lot near the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality building, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın stated that they have been cooperating with Gaza for a long time within the scope of the sister city protocol and that he also met with the Gaza Mayor earlier in the day.

Büyükakın stated that the prepared aid will be delivered to Gaza from Mersin Port under the coordination of AFAD , adding, "In the first phase, humanitarian aid will be delivered. Our preparations for logistical support and infrastructure work in the medium and long term are ongoing."

The aid packages prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality included 18,000 canned goods, 2,500 halva, 5,040 baby food, 3,000 baby food, 6,300 biscuit packages, 80 tents, 200 beds, 200 blankets, 200 pillows and hygiene supplies.

The ceremony was attended by AK Party Provincial Chairman Şahin Talus, MHP Provincial Chairman Tuncay Batı, Provincial Mufti Mehmet Sönmezoğlu, Kocaeli Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen Union Chairman Kadir Durmuş, NGO representatives and citizens.

Following the prayer recited by Provincial Mufti Sönmezoğlu, the two prepared trucks departed for Gaza accompanied by sirens.
