The government's new target is the real estate that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has brought to the public.

Under the proposed law regarding foundations submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), "Amendments to the Law on Foundations and Certain Other Laws," the management and oversight of municipally owned cultural assets would be transferred to the central administration. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which is the government's target, owns more than 100 properties belonging to foundations.
CHP Istanbul MP Sibel Yanıkömeroğlu said, “The management of public assets will be handed over to the central administration. Local governments are being bypassed. Partnerships and cultural assets affiliated with metropolitan municipalities are also included. The aim is to restrict municipalities' revenue and service authority. More than 100 foundations own real estate owned by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.”
SENSITIVE CHANGES
CHP Antalya Deputy Sururi Çorabatır criticized the proposal adopted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Public Works, Zoning, Transportation, and Tourism Committee, saying, "Extremely sensitive changes are being introduced regarding foundation properties, cultural heritage, tourism investments, and natural areas. There are drawbacks to the constitutionally guaranteed right to property, the principle of equality, and the freedom to seek legal remedies."
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality owns more than 100 cultural properties. If the AKP's proposed legislation becomes law, these properties will be transferred to the public administration. These properties include:
- Museum Gashouse - ArtIstanbul Feshane - Beşiktaş Pier Library - Kadıköy Pier Library - Beyoğlu Cinema - Basilica Cistern - Casa Botter
- Moda Pier
