The giant music streaming platform will turn into a dating app!
Spotify, the music platform serving millions of users worldwide, announced that it will now offer a direct messaging (DM) feature within the app. With the new feature, users will be able to instantly send the song, podcast, or album they're listening to to their friends and start a conversation within the same app. The message box will be accessible via the icon next to their profile photo.
WHO WILL USE THE FEATURE?According to the information provided by Spotify:
- Both Free and Premium users will be able to use the feature.
- Only users aged 16 and over will be able to access.
- Text and emoji reactions will be available in chats.
- Security filters and encryption will be applied against harmful content.
No clear date has been announced.The messaging feature will first be available in select countries and then gradually roll out globally. An official date for Türkiye has not yet been announced. Spotify recommends users keep the app up to date.
The feature sparked backlashThis upcoming feature for Spotify has sparked criticism from some users, who believe it will defeat the purpose of the app, especially if they only want to use it for listening to music.
