Mahmut Tanal: Merdan Yanardağ is not a spy

CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal reacted to the detention of Merdan Yanardağ by calling it a "political operation" in his statement on TELE1.
Tanal said in his statement:
This is a traffic jam that violates the rule of law, a manifestation of the government's fear. The process launched today against Ekrem İmamoğlu and Merdan Yanardağ is a political operation. The government is now trying to stir up this debate with baseless allegations like espionage. Now, they are desperately clinging to the irrational claim that they won the 2019 election with foreign intelligence. This is also sabotage of the people's will. This is the politics of inventing crimes. I am a member of parliament who sleeps in election bags at the sports complex until dawn. Which foreign powers told me to come and sleep? The law is not a tool of revenge, but of justice. Those who seek to obscure the truth ultimately disappear in that darkness.
Merdan Yanardağ is a person who is completely in favor of an independent Türkiye. Yanardağ is a journalist, and Merdan Yanardağ would not be a spy. Ekrem İmamoğlu is an anti-imperialist who defends independence.
