İmamoğlu's message about 'Altan Öymen'

Former CHP Chairman and journalist and author Altan Öymen has died of multiple organ failure at the age of 93. The message sent by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently incarcerated in Silivri Prison, on Öymen's passing was shared on the Presidential Candidate Office social media account.
İmamoğlu's message is as follows:
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Altan Öymen, the former Chairman of our Republican People's Party, journalist, and politician. Throughout his life, from journalism to politics, he never compromised on democracy and freedoms. His honorable stance against the press, which was sought to be silenced after the March 12 and September 12 coups, has always been an inspiration to democracy advocates. In 1999, he assumed the chairmanship of the CHP during a difficult period, playing a crucial role in the party's resurgence. He will always be remembered as an exemplary figure for his kindness, expertise, and principled stance. I offer my condolences to his grieving family, loved ones, and all party members.
