An era is ending on YouTube!

An era is ending on YouTube!

The new video player design, which has been in testing since April 2025, is now gradually being rolled out to a wider user base. This change, which appeared on YouTube's web version, first surfaced via screenshots on platforms like Reddit.

In the new design, basic control buttons like "Play" and "Pause" and the video duration are located in separate bubbles. Other control buttons are grouped into a separate bubble.

VOLUME SETTING KEY IS NOW ON THE RIGHT

Another familiar detail has changed. The volume button, previously located in the bottom left corner, has now been moved to the right. In the old layout, all buttons were accessible from a single strip. With the new design, this structure has completely changed, creating a more modern, bubble-divided interface.

NOT EVERYONE HAS SEEN THE NEW DESIGN YET

The change isn't reaching everyone at the same time. While many users have already seen the new player, some accounts are still actively using the old design. For example, the device used while writing this article was still using the old interface.

This shows that the new design has not been fully implemented on a global scale and that a gradual transition process is ongoing.

USERS ARE DIVIDED IN TWO

As with past YouTube interface updates, this design change has sparked controversy among users. Some argue that the new design is more aesthetically pleasing and contemporary, while others note that the old interface was simpler and more user-friendly.

Those who complain about the messy appearance in particular say that the familiar experience has been disrupted and ease of use has decreased.

The process of change continues

YouTube typically bases its interface updates on user feedback. Therefore, some improvements to the new design are likely in the future. However, the fact remains that the platform is bidding farewell to its classic video player design.

The end of an era for YouTube is now official. Soon, all users will experience a brand new viewing experience.
