Drinking coffee correctly can extend human life

Scientists at Tufts University followed more than 46,000 U.S. adults for 9 to 11 years. During that time, those who drank coffee had a lower risk of death, but that advantage disappeared for those who added sugar and whole milk.

According to research, the benefits of coffee come from the bioactive compounds it contains. Dairy products containing sugar and saturated fat reduce this effect. Therefore, it is best to drink coffee black or with little sugar.

Two to three cups of black coffee a day stands out as the ideal amount. Researchers state that they did not see the same effect with decaffeinated coffee. This suggests that the benefit may be due to caffeine.

"Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. However, it is very important to limit the amount of added sugar and cream to maintain its health benefits," said Fang Fang Zhang, lead author of the study.
