ASO President Ardıç: ''We aim to increase our energy independence and strengthen our economy''

The 11th Nuclear Power Plants Summit - NPPES, one of the world's leading nuclear energy events, has begun in Istanbul. Organized by the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and the Nuclear Industry Association (NSD) with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the summit brought nuclear energy innovations that will shape the future of the world to the agenda.

''We aim to increase our energy independence and strengthen our economy''

Making statements during the summit, ASO President Seyit Ardıç said, ''Nuclear energy, a clean and sustainable energy source, is also an important tool in combating climate change and ensuring our energy security. As a country, we aim to increase our energy independence and strengthen our economy with our investments in nuclear energy. Considering our growing industry, increasing population and changing climate conditions, the transition to a sustainable and domestic resource-based model that will reduce external dependency in energy is of critical importance. At this point, nuclear energy offers us a new horizon.''

''Nuclear energy is no longer a choice for Türkiye, it is a clear economic necessity''

''As stated by our Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, nuclear energy is no longer a choice for Turkey, but a clear economic necessity,'' Ardıç continued his words, ''In line with our increasing demand for electricity, the acceleration in the growth rate of our industry and the goal of reducing external dependency, turning to nuclear energy is a strategic and inevitable step. This vision will play a critical role not only in energy production but also in the development of high technology, domestic engineering and industrial capacity,'' he said. ''Nuclear energy plays a central role as one of the clean energy sources that contribute to emission reduction.''

ASO President Seyit Ardıç said, ''The Energy Efficiency 2030 Strategy and 2nd National Energy Efficiency Action Plan announced by our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources emphasize that energy transformation should be supported not only by the supply side but also by strong policies on the demand side. With the 20.2 billion dollar investment to be made in the field of energy efficiency by 2030, it is aimed to reduce 100 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions and achieve 16 percent energy savings. Nuclear energy plays a central role in this strategy as one of the clean energy sources that contribute to emission reduction. In this context, investments to be made in nuclear energy should be planned in a way that supports not only energy supply security but also our national climate goals.''

Ardıç, who also drew attention to the importance of localization of nuclear energy investments, said, ''The active participation of our local industry in the processes in the field of nuclear energy is indispensable for the strengthening of the ecosystem based on nuclear technology. The experience we gained from the Akkuyu project shows us that localization and the roles our industry will take in the projects should be reconsidered in future nuclear power plant projects.''

Expressing that they attach importance to nuclear energy investments and localization as the Ankara Chamber of Industry, Ardıç said, ''We started to prepare our industrialists for this field with the nuclear industry cluster NÜKSAK, which was established for the first time in Türkiye. We contribute to the localization of the Akkuyu project in particular with NÜKSAK, which we carry out within the scope of the Cluster Support Program of our Ministry of Industry and Technology. We support our companies to reach international nuclear standards. NÜKSAK, the first phase of which we completed with the participation of 75 leading industrialists, enables us to gain very important experiences in the field of nuclear energy.''
