Critical warning from expert: Do not swim with lenses

Critical warning from expert: Do not swim with lenses

Prof. Dr. Hidayet Erdöl stated that contact lenses are preferred because they provide comfortable vision.

Stating that great care should be taken when using contact lenses, Erdöl said, "Contact lenses are especially important in terms of cleanliness. If you do not pay attention to the cleaning of the contact lens, it can become a source of infection."

Erdöl also pointed out the importance of lens replacement times, saying, "Sometimes people can keep contact lenses on their eyes for weeks. Infections transmitted through contact lenses are one of the most difficult infections to treat."

Erdöl, who pointed out that hygiene is very important when using contact lenses, stated that taking them off at night is also among the most important issues.

"Regardless of summer and winter, attention should be paid to cleanliness"

Erdöl emphasized that contact lenses should not be worn in the sea or in the pool, and warned, "If you wear contact lenses in the sea or in the pool, infection or other substances may enter. This may lead to more serious and severe infections. Therefore, wearing contact lenses while wearing contact lenses in the sea or in the pool is not a very appropriate approach."

Underlining that care should be taken to clean lenses regardless of summer or winter, Erdöl continued as follows:

"In the summer, since people spend more time outdoors, dust, soil, pollen and allergens can come and stick to contact lenses. Therefore, care should be taken to clean the lenses. Sometimes we even recommend daily lenses so that people do not experience such problems."

Prof. Dr. Erdöl stated that sun rays are allergenic for the eyes and noted:

"Sun rays can directly cause damage to the retina. Therefore, in environments rich in ultraviolet, in the mountains, in snowy areas or at the seaside, it is necessary to use glasses that block ultraviolet rays, and it is also beneficial to have a sunlight-reducing effect."
