A new era in obesity surgery: Both aesthetics and comfort are possible with a single incision!

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Durak stated that modern surgical approaches are moving toward minimally invasive methods, requiring fewer incisions, and that the latest innovation in this field is single-trocar obesity surgery.
"While traditional gastric sleeve surgery is usually performed with four or five small incisions, this new method involves a single incision made just through the belly button. The surgical procedure is the same as the classic gastric sleeve surgery; only the number of incisions is different," he said.
"HE FEELS ALMOST NO PAIN"Assoc. Prof. Dr. Durak stated that surgeries performed using the single-trocar method reduce the risk of infection, minimize pain in patients, and provide better cosmetic results. He added, "Thanks to this method, our patients feel almost no pain and can return to their daily lives and work much more quickly."
Doruk Yıldırım Hospital Gastroenterology Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğukan Durak, who also noted that the method is not suitable for every patient, listed the eligibility criteria as follows: "Those with a body mass index (BMI) over 35 and comorbidities, or those with a BMI over 40, are candidates for this surgery. Furthermore, the short distance between the rib cage and the belly button and the small size of the liver are factors that make the operation technically easier."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Durak stated that the single-trocar method stands out especially for its cosmetic results, saying, "This method, which has become increasingly preferred in obesity surgery in recent years, allows patients to both regain their health more quickly and adapt to their social lives more quickly."
