Spawning ban 2025 in Moscow region and Moscow city

In 2025, the Moscow region and the capital will traditionally introduce restrictions on fishing during the spawning period. They are aimed at preserving the population of aquatic bioresources and preventing overfishing. Check out the main restricted areas, timing and standards for fishing.
Fishing will be prohibited in a number of reservoirs in the Moscow region during the spawning period, including:
- The Volga River (Dubna) – within 1 km below the dam, except for the bay in the backwater on the right side of the hydroelectric complex.
- Pestovskoye Reservoir :
- From the mouth of the Kokotka River to the line from the pier for Raketa-type ships (right bank) to the Barskie Prudy base (left bank).
- In the area of the Birch Islands, within 500 m from the shore.
- Near the village of Drachevo - within 100 m from the shore and 500 m on both sides of the settlement's borders.
- Klyazminskoye Reservoir :
- In Krasnaya Gorka Bay.
- In the Lutosnya River and its tributaries (Solnechnogorsk and Dmitrovsky districts).
- Istra Reservoir :
- In the area of Kostyaevskie Islands (100 m from the water's edge).
- In the right-bank zone of the Istra River from the mouth of the Chernaya River (a strip 50 m wide for 1.1 km towards Pyatnitsky Reach).
- From March 22 to June 1 – fishing is prohibited in the cooling ponds of the Shaturskaya and Elektrogorskaya State District Power Plants.
- From April 1 to June 10 – in all fishery waters, with the exception of the use of one float or bottom fishing rod (no more than 2 hooks) outside spawning zones.
- From October 1 to April 30 – fishing in wintering pits is prohibited.
- From December 15 to January 15 – restrictions on burbot fishing.
Throughout the year, it is prohibited to catch the following types of aquatic biological resources:
- sterlet,
- freshwater trout,
- freshwater catfish,
- grayling,
- chub,
- white-eye,
- blue bream,
- chekhon,
- bersh,
- lampreys,
- crayfish.
Fish that have not reached commercial size must be immediately released into the reservoir with minimal damage.
- Asp – 40 cm
- Pike perch – 40 cm
- Bream – 25 cm
- Pike – 32 cm
- Burbot – 40 cm
- Carp – 40 cm
- Chub – 20 cm
- Ide – 25 cm
The length is measured from the tip of the snout (with the mouth closed) to the base of the middle rays of the caudal fin.
The restrictions also apply to the amount of fish caught:
- Pike perch – up to 3 pcs.
- Pike – up to 5 pcs.
- Crayfish – up to 30 pcs.
- Live bait (fry) – up to 50 pcs.
- Bloodworm – up to 0.2 kg.
When catching fry and live bait, it is permissible to use lifters no larger than 100 cm with a mesh size of up to 10 mm.
The total catch limit is no more than 5 kg per day (or one specimen if its weight exceeds 5 kg). If the limit is exceeded, fishing must be stopped.
By observing spawning restrictions, fishermen help preserve fish populations and keep the ecosystem of water bodies in a stable state.
