Scientists studying 'alien mummies' in Peru have made a stunning discovery in their mouths

Now the team says they have found evidence of "filling of cavities and clear signs of dental work", suggesting the mummies are biological creatures, the Daily Mail reports.
Dr. Jose Zalce, former director of the Mexican Navy's medical department, and his team examined one of the mummies, which scientists have nicknamed "Antonio," when they placed a small camera in the mummy's mouth to capture what appeared to be amalgam fillings.
This type of filling is made from a mixture of metals including mercury, silver, copper and tin, compared to today's more common tooth-staining composite fillings, which use resin, glass and ceramic particles, the Daily Mail notes.
Dr Salse told DailyMail.com that researchers found between 28 and 32 teeth, some of which were broken, and a 3D reconstruction revealed the spacing and structure of the teeth to be similar to those of primates.
Scientists also examined Antonio's eyes and found "dried tissue corresponding to the inner eye muscles and what appears to be the remnant of a completely dried out optic nerve," Dr. Zalce said.
"This is further clear and irrefutable evidence that these bodies are 100% genuine, real and organic, as they were once alive," Dr. Zalse said.
Dr Salse told DailyMail.com that he had analysed 21 of the strange bodies, finding "fingerprints, bone wear, dental formations, muscle features and internal organs - all of which prove they are 100 per cent genuine biological organisms".
The mystery of the mummies began in 2017, when Maussan and a team of self-proclaimed paranormal investigators claimed to have discovered strange, three-fingered "mummified humanoids" with elongated skulls, the Daily Mail recalls.
The body was found covered in a white powder, which the research team believes was used to preserve the remains.
And five years later, the tiny creatures were put on display in Mexico's Congress, where Maussan defended his point of view, and did so twice.
During the second meeting, the ufologist invited several doctors, who unanimously declared that the bodies belonged to real, once living organisms: some experts claimed that they had studied five similar samples over four years.
However, scientists outside the group also studied the two mummies and came to different conclusions, the Daily Mail notes.
Forensic archaeologist Flavio Estrada, who led the analysis, said claims that the two objects came from another world were "absolutely false."
"The conclusion is simple: these are dolls assembled from the bones of animals from this planet, using modern synthetic glues, therefore they were not assembled in pre-Hispanic times," he claimed in January 2024. "They are not aliens, they are not alien women."
However, the former Colorado State Attorney and current defense attorney who examined one of the mummies is also a true believer in aliens.
Joshua McDowell told DailyMail.com: "The bodies Estrada examined were not related to any of the samples we had examined. They were folk dolls made to look like mummies, confiscated at the airport."
Antonio was introduced to the world in December 2024, showing off three toes, an elongated head, and small, slanted eyes. It's unclear why researchers examined this particular specimen and not others, but it was likely because it was discovered so recently.
"Antonio is approximately 5.5 to 5.7 feet tall," Dr. Zalce said.
He added that other mummies in their care had also been found to have "fully identifiable teeth in CT scans and 3D reconstructions."
"You can tell from your teeth how much wear there is, which depends on your diet, your developmental time frame and certain habits throughout your life," says Dr. Zalse.
"Teeth are an important element to consider and require specialized forensic dental examination."
The team of researchers said they analyzed the sample for carbon-14, which determines the age of organic materials by measuring the amount of radioactive carbon left in the sample.
The team estimated that Antonio was around 1,500 years old.
The creature's body was mummified, its arms were pressed to its chest, its palms almost touching its shoulders.
Dr. David Ruiz Vela, former president of the Peruvian Medical Association, was the first to analyze Antonio's body and said he had human-like organs, with a visible brain structure.
He also claimed that Antonio had a stab wound to the chest that resulted in broken ribs and damaged internal organs.
"He had a stab wound that broke the ribs on the left side of his chest, penetrated his chest, abdomen, liver and completely penetrated him from the inside," Dr. Vela said.
The researchers suggested that the bodies were fossilized due to algae that helped preserve them, as well as highly toxic glue that was "not in line with the requirements of the time."
Estrada's claims did not stop Dr. Zals and his team from studying the mysterious bodies further.
"All serious researchers involved in the study confirmed that these are non-human bodies with unique anatomical features, such as tridactyl (three-fingered creature), without any traces of artificial manipulation or modification," said Dr. Zalse.
In December, Antonio was joined by another mummy named Paloma, who the team says was found to have hair - a first for a mummy.
Dr. Ruiz Vela believes that Paloma lived to be 60 years old.
"This is the first time we have found a dried body with hair, and copper-colored hair at that," said Dr. Ruiz Vela.
Journalist Joyce Mantilla, who has dedicated himself to proving the reality of the mummies, suggested that "in 2025, more information about these creatures will be revealed, in particular about the secret location where the bodies were found."
Researchers say the site was hidden from the public to discourage looters.
