Sergei Belyakov, an employee of the Ivanovo Stone Museum, explained in an interview with MK whether we should be wary of the upcoming magnetic storms. According to him, despite the predicted increase in solar activity, no special measures need to be taken.
"There may be increased instability of the Earth's magnetic field, weak polar lights and minor disruptions in radio communications. However, this is a common occurrence during the solar maximum period that we are currently experiencing," the expert noted.
Belyakov emphasized that solar activity is unpredictable, and such surges during the peak period of the 11-year cycle occur regularly - up to several times a month or even a week.
The scientist recalled that the current maximum of solar activity will last for about another year, after which the number of flares will begin to gradually decrease. By 2030–2031, a transition to the minimum of the cycle is expected. Thus, despite the temporary increase in geomagnetic disturbances, they will not have a serious impact on human life.
