The first maximum class X flare has been recorded on the Sun in a month and a half, said Sergei Bogachev, head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
"Right now, there is an X-class flare occurring on the Sun. The preliminary rating is X1.2. This is the first X-class flare after a month and a half break," Bogachev said.
The last flare of similar power (X2.0) was on March 28.
It is noted that the flare occurred on the western edge of the Sun and does not pose a danger to the Earth. However, according to Bogachev, this indicates that the Sun is still capable of generating powerful explosions, despite the decrease in activity at the beginning of the year.
