According to the Sterlegrad portal, archaeologists from Egypt and the Dominican Republic conducted excavations in the vicinity of the ancient city of Taposiris Magna, located approximately 15 km from modern Alexandria. This was reported by the LiveScience publication, citing information received from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

Among the first finds was a hoard of silver and bronze coins dating back to the reign of Cleopatra VII. The portrait of the famous Egyptian ruler is clearly visible on these coins. However, the most interesting discoveries were yet to come.

During the excavations, archaeologists discovered 16 previously unknown burials. Inside were mummified remains surrounded by burial figurines, scrolls and other ritual artifacts. The researchers were particularly interested in one of the mummies, which had a golden tongue in its mouth.

The purpose of this precious metal tongue for the deceased has not yet been established. Scientists hypothesize that it may be related to ideas about the possibility of communicating in the afterlife. However, no direct written evidence or similar artifacts have been found before.
