The consortium of companies responsible for approving new emojis - the Unicode Consortium - announced the selection of eight new symbols that, among the more than 160 characters that were being considered, will be present in the launch of the Unicode 17.0 package.
Among the new additions is a trombone, a treasure chest , a distorted face with bulging eyes, an already eaten apple , a 'cloud' caused by a fight , a ballet dancer , a furry creature (similar to Bigfoot) and, finally, an orca .
It's worth noting that even though Unicode 17.0 is scheduled for release in September of this year, it's unlikely that these eight new emojis will be immediately available to iOS and Android mobile phone users.
Both Apple and Google typically release their own versions of approved emojis to fit the visual language of their respective operating systems, so the arrival of new emojis is only expected closer to the end of the year.
Below you can find the emojis approved by the Unicode Consortium, which includes tech giants such as Adobe, Airbnb, Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and others.
