Suspect of setting fire to building in Santo Tirso arrested by PJ

The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of having set fire, on Tuesday, to a building comprising four single-family homes in São Martinho do Campo, in Santo Tirso, Porto district, this police force reported on Wednesday.

In a statement, the PJ stated that the fire, which occurred at 9:00 am, was caused using a direct flame, in a situation of emotional imbalance, with the defendant having no motivation or justification for his actions.

“Not only was the home occupied by the now detained man in danger, but also the other buildings and the remaining residents, as these were adjoining homes with adjacent walls and were built quite old, a factor that facilitated the spread of the fire,” the PJ stressed.

The detainee will be brought before the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
