PSD. Former Almodôvar mayor is running for Castro Verde

The former Social Democratic mayor of Almodôvar, in the district of Beja, António Sebastião, will be the PSD/CDS-PP coalition candidate for the Castro Verde City Council, with a PS majority, in the elections scheduled for October 12.
In a note sent to the Lusa news agency, the PSD and CDS-PP explained that the country is experiencing "a time of change," and that it is "necessary" to "bring this positive and ambitious change" to the municipality of Castro Verde, also in the district of Beja, "marked by decades of resignation and conformism."
"António Sebastião makes us believe that there is a credible alternative capable of implementing the much-needed changes so that our municipality can follow the path of growth that the new government is setting for the country," the statement reads. The PSD and CDS-PP also stated that "it is this transformative capacity" and "this spirit of global development" that they want to "bring to Castro Verde."
Born in Almodôvar, António Sebastião is 73 years old and has been elected to the Almodôvar Chamber since 1979 , with only a hiatus in his term from 1993 to 1997.
From 1979 to 1993, he served as a councilor in the opposition party APU (Authority of the Workers' Party) and then CDU (Central Democratic Party). From 1997 to 2001, he served as an independent for the PSD (Social Democratic Party). In 2001, he was elected mayor of Almodôvar for the PSD, a position he held for three consecutive terms until 2013.
That year he left the PSD and joined, as number two, the list of the Independents for Almodôvar movement in that year's local elections, which ended up being won by the PS and the current mayor António Bota.
In 2017, António Sebastião ran again for the Almodôvar City Council for the PSD, but as an independent, repeating his candidacy in 2021, but as a social-democratic activist, always being elected as a councilor in the opposition.
The PSD and CDS-PP candidate in Castro Verde is a businessman and has a business in this municipality, in the area of aromatic and medicinal plants .
António Sebastião is the fourth official candidate for the Castro Verde City Council, led by the socialist António José Brito, who is running for a third term.
Ana Paula Baltazar, from the CDU, and businessman André Colaço, from Chega, are also candidates for education inspector.
The Castro Verde City Council executive is made up of three elected members from the PS and two from the CDU.
