FCT Mobility – Release of provisional results of the second assessment phase

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) makes available on its website the list of provisional results of the second evaluation phase of the FCT Mobility program, referring to applications submitted between January 11 and March 10, 2025.
71 applications out of 75 eligible proposals were submitted for funding, corresponding to funding of €486,654.50 in support for the international mobility of researchers. Of the 71 researchers undergoing international mobility under this programme, and in the incoming modality, 18 come from countries outside Europe (Brazil, Canada, USA and Lebanon), but also from European countries (Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Romania, France and Ireland). In the outgoing modality, there are 53 Portuguese researchers in transit, mostly to European Union countries (Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Croatia and Romania), and less than a third to countries outside Europe (USA, China, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico and Angola).
Since its inception, this programme has received 199 applications, of which 152 were approved (approval rate of 76.38%), with a total funding of €1,032,610.50.
The FCT Mobility Programme finances medium and long-term stays for national PhD researchers in foreign institutions and for foreign PhD researchers in national institutions, with a view to carrying out research activities and/or fieldwork.
The Program, which has an allocation of five million euros of funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan – PRR ( Measure RE-C06-i06 – Science Plus Capacity Building ), supports two modalities:
- FCT Mobility outgoing , which supports the stay of national researchers in foreign institutions, between 2 and 11 consecutive months;
- FCT Mobility incoming , designed to welcome researchers affiliated with foreign institutions to Portugal, for between 1 and 3 consecutive months.
In the case of parents of children up to 12 years old, the entire period can be completed non-consecutively, facilitating a balance between professional and family life.
The program is open permanently. Applications may be submitted until December 31, 2025, for mobility projects starting up until March 31, 2026. During this period, it is expected that at least 185 mobilities will be supported. The support granted includes an amount for one trip and a monthly amount for the stay, which varies according to the destination country.
This program is an important contribution to the promotion and strengthening of the internationalization of the national scientific and technological system, which increasingly depends on its international attractiveness and its active participation in international collaborative networks.
