Chega candidate for Tabuaço bets on proximity

The Chega candidate for the Tabuaço City Council told Lusa news agency this Monday that he wants to base his mandate on promoting the local economy based on proximity.
"Given that proximity is one of my pillars, my goal is always to listen to and involve the population in decision-making, ensuring that policies respond to their real needs, focusing on attracting investment, and creating opportunities that retain young people and attract new families," stated David Gomes.
In a written statement sent to the Lusa news agency, the candidate, a member of Chega, said that his vision for the municipality of Tabuaço, in the north of the Viseu district, “involves management that is closer to the people.”
" I intend to enhance the municipality's resources and potential, focusing on economic dynamism, tourism, and support for local businesses , improving the response in essential areas such as health, mobility, and social support," he wrote.
Regarding social support, David Gomes emphasized that he wants to "ensure that it is fair, rigorous, and that it only reaches those who truly need it — such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and working families in temporary hardship."
David Gomes wants to “combat fraud and misuse of support, ensuring that they are a temporary support instrument and a step towards autonomy and professional integration” .
"With complete transparency and a focus on results, I intend to leverage the municipality's resources and potential. I believe Tabuaço has everything it needs to grow and prosper, but it needs leadership, courage, and a genuine commitment to the future. That's what I intend to offer," he promised.
David Gomes, 35, is a native and resident of the parish of Arcos, in the municipality of Tabuaço. Single and childless, he revealed that his training spanned various fields, including computer programming and organizational consulting and communication.
He told Lusa news agency that he is completing a higher professional technical course to pursue a degree in administrative secretarial work.
With political experience, he has held the presidency of the Arcos Parish Assembly for the last four years on an independent list and, previously, he was a member of that same local authority in other roles.
He decided to run for mayor of Tabuaço after “closely monitoring the political and social reality” of the municipality and “realizing that Tabuaço needs effective change.”
"I'm not satisfied with the stagnation and lack of responses to problems that have been dragging on for too long . I felt I couldn't just stand by and that, with my involvement, I could help forge a different path, far removed from any legal problems or shadows as have been the case thus far," he explained.
David Gomes is a candidate in a municipality where the PSD/CDS-PP coalition candidate, Leandro Macedo, is already known, and who in 2021 won 69.86% of the electorate, that is, 2,318 votes, placing four councilors in the executive.
In these last local elections, the Socialist Party won one seat, with 18.60% of voters (617 votes), in a municipality that then had 4,826 registered voters.
