More than 20 people were injured in the early hours of this Saturday after a car ran over a crowd in the city of Los Angeles, in the state of California, in the United States, in an incident whose details are still unclear.

According to CNN , the incident occurred at 2 am local time (10 am in Lisbon), on West Santa Monica Boulevard, near a music venue.

The same station reports that, according to the Los Angeles fire department, there will be four or five victims in critical condition, eight to ten in serious condition and ten to 15 slightly injured.

For now, authorities are only talking about an “unknown vehicle” that drove into a crowd on the street, with no further details about the case yet.

According to NBC , there is still considerable uncertainty about the cause of the incident. Travis Ward, head of the Los Angeles Police Department's traffic division, said it was too early to say whether the incident was intentional or accidental — and that an investigation was still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Adam Van Gerpen, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, told NBC that "there appears to have been a vehicle with someone in it who lost consciousness," which may have been the cause of the incident. On the other hand, there are "reports that one of the patients suffered a gunshot wound."
