UC creates bachelor's and master's degrees in AI

The University of Coimbra (UC) will create a bachelor's and master's degree in artificial intelligence and data science from the new academic year to respond to the needs of the job market, it was announced this Tuesday.

The educational institution explained, in a statement, that the bachelor's and master's degrees in Engineering and Data Science underwent restructuring, changing their name to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

“This reform reflects the strong learning component in Artificial Intelligence [AI] that has always characterized the course and aligns the nomenclature with the growing relevance, popularity and need for AI in the global panorama”, says the note.

The UC considers that these courses “meet the 133 million jobs that will be created by 2030 by Artificial Intelligence and an annual growth in needs in this area of ​​around 37%”.

“The objective is to train future professionals to carry out their activities in contexts that require the operationalization of fundamental concepts in the implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science solutions”, reads the statement.

Applications for the Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science will run from July 21 to August 4 and for the Master's degree they are now open, closing on July 15.
