The loves of Jorge Costa's life (who was the father of three boys)

It was unexpected for everyone to receive the news of Jorge Costa's death after he was rushed to hospital in the early afternoon of Tuesday, August 5. The former FC Porto footballer succumbed to cardiorespiratory arrest at the age of 53.

Since the news of his departure was made public, tributes to the former football player were quick to arrive, among stars of the sporting world, such as Sérgio Conceição , Carlos Queiroz , Pedro Proença , Diogo Costa , Cristiano Ronaldo , Luís Figo , José Mourinho , and other well-known faces.

Jorge Costa was the father of three boys: David, 31, Guilherme, 23, and Salvador (a Leça player), 18. He decided to immortalize his love for his sons with a tattoo of each of their initials. The former footballer also became a grandfather in 2022.

Jorge Costa was with Isabel Costa for several years. In February 2012, the end of their 18-year marriage was confirmed. At the time, there was speculation that the former player had assaulted his then-wife, but she made it clear that this had not happened, as national media reported at the time.

Years later, between 2014 and 2016, when he was working as the coach of Gabon, in Africa, Jorge Costa met the person who accompanied him until the end of his days, Estela Rito.

In an interview with Tribuna do Expresso in 2020, Jorge Costa recalled the moment he met Estela Rito. "Living in Africa was fantastic. I lived in a very good country, a large country, where I had everything I needed. I lived in a fantastic house with a swimming pool, and I had every quality of life. On a personal level, the best thing that could have happened to me in my life happened to me: I met my current wife. It was two and a half fantastic years that unfortunately ended, because if it were up to me, I could still be there. I was very happy," he said, recalling those years in the country.

Despite not being very active on social media, Jorge Costa was still sharing some content—mostly professional, but also personal. On September 21, 2019, for example, he posted a set of images in which he appears with Estela Rito to mark a special occasion.

The same happened on September 21, 2020. "Another year."

And it happened again in 2021. "Another year... with you at the helm."

In May, he also celebrated his beloved's birthday on Instagram. "Life is like this... when you least expect it... voilà! Happy birthday, love."

Jorge Costa's funeral ceremonies begin this Wednesday. The former footballer's farewell will begin at 3:00 PM today, August 6th, at Estádio do Dragão. The doors will be opened to members, fans, and the general public for a final tribute, which will conclude at 10:00 PM.

The funeral will take place on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Parish Church of Christ the King. The seventh-day mass is scheduled for August 12th.

FC Porto's football director died at the age of 53 following cardiac arrest. Farewell ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. this Wednesday at Estádio do Dragão.
