Poze do Rodo adopts 'new name' and announces free show in Rio

MC Poze do Rodo, stage name of Marlon Brendon Coelho Couto, confirmed that he will hold a free event at Complexo do Alemão, in Rio de Janeiro, a few days after leaving prison. The announcement was made on social media on Tuesday (03), the date on which the artist was released following a decision by the Second Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro.
"Out of gratitude to everyone for the positive feedback, I'll be holding an event at CPX. Just come and enjoy it to your heart's content," the singer wrote on his Instagram account. He also said: "Know that from Poze do Rodo I became Poze do Povo. Tomorrow we'll all enjoy it together! I'll be there to sing for my people, does anyone else agree with me?"
Arrest and release: the judicial consequences
The funk singer was arrested on May 29, under suspicion of inciting crime and alleged involvement in drug trafficking. He was detained for five days at the Gericinó Penitentiary in Bangu, and was released after an analysis by Judge Peterson Barroso Simão.
The court ruling found that there were flaws in the arrest procedure, particularly the way the singer was handcuffed and publicly exposed. The judge said the police's conduct was "unreasonable" and stressed that the methods used during the arrest should be investigated.
Reactions on social media
Poze's statement was widely shared on digital platforms. Fans and admirers expressed support for the artist and praised his stance. "Those who owe nothing have nothing to fear! If he had any association as they claim, he wouldn't step foot in the community," commented one internet user. Other users compared him to local political figures, indicating a possible growing prestige.
"Next election, he'll become a councilor in RJ," said another.
Despite this, there were also prejudiced demonstrations, questioning the profile of the public that would attend the event. The massive presence of supporters at the time of Poze's release from prison demonstrated the artist's social impact, even causing a disturbance that required the intervention of the Military Police, who used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
New positioning and message to the public
MC Poze, now calling himself "Poze do Povo", took advantage of the visibility to highlight his personal transformation. He thanked the support he received during the period he was detained and showed his willingness to return the affection with a show in the favela.
"Without you, they would have left me there until today," he declared, reinforcing the weight of popular support in his recent trajectory. The initiative of the event was described as a celebration of freedom and a way to reaffirm his ties with his home community.
