That's because, according to jewelry expert Juana García Sánchez, quoted by the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, there are specific rings for a special moment like a marriage proposal and the one chosen by CR7 is not one of them.

According to Juana, Gio's diamond ring is a "cocktail ring," not an engagement ring. What does that even mean?

Cocktail rings are worn at parties and events because they are very extravagant, unlike engagement rings, which should be more delicate since they are worn daily.

Juana García Sánchez revealed to the Italian publication:

"The ring is huge and heavy. This type of stone, weighing about 40 carats, is better suited for a necklace than a ring. It's uncomfortable and rubs against the fingers. Only the setting is perfect, but everything else doesn't fit," the expert confesses.

"Georgina's ring is more of a formal or cocktail ring, made to attract attention on special occasions, but not to symbolize a commitment and to be worn every day," concluded Juana García Sánchez.

What is a cocktail ring?

According to the publication, cocktail rings first appeared in the 1920s in the United States, during Prohibition (which prohibited the sale and commercialization of alcoholic beverages in the country). These large, eye-catching pieces were worn by women in speakeasies to demonstrate independence and elegance when holding a glass of alcohol.

The jewel features an oval diamond, two centimeters long, weighing between 40 and 45 carats, and two triangular diamonds on each side. It belongs to the Damaso brand, originating in Bilbao, Spain.

According to Hola! magazine, the piece could cost around six million euros, although it could reach 10 or 12 million, depending on the purity of the diamond (this value already includes the side diamonds).
