On the day that Brazil remembered the 35th anniversary of Cazuza 's death, on July 7, 2025, a simple gesture, but loaded with symbolism , moved those present at the "Cazuza Exagerado" exhibition, in Rio de Janeiro. Ney Matogrosso , the artist's ex-boyfriend and eternal friend , was alongside Lucinha Araújo , the singer's mother, for an affectionate participation in the event that celebrates the life and work of one of the greatest names in national music.
The image of the reunion between Ney and Lucinha, marked by a kiss on the head and looks of complicity, circulated on social media as a symbol of Cazuza's living memory. Ney, Lucinha and a love that never faded
The story between Ney Matogrosso and Cazuza began in the late 1970s, when the young poet was only 17 years old. The relationship lasted only a few months, but it was intense and transformative. Ney has stated in several interviews that he was "completely in love" and that he saw in his partner a fascinating duality: a public Cazuza, extravagant and rebellious; and another intimate, sweet and charming.
Even after the end of the relationship, which had turbulent episodes and which were portrayed in the film "Man with an H", the affection never stopped existing. Ney remained by the singer's side until his last days, already weakened by AIDS. "We remained friends, loving each other, but without sex", he said in an interview.
