Francis Ford Coppola hospitalized in Italy. Filmmaker has already responded

F rancis Ford Coppola was taken to Tor Vergata Hospital in Rome, Italy, after apparently suffering a cardiac arrhythmia.

According to ANSA, the filmmaker was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning, August 5. It is also known that the director of 'The Godfather' or 'Apocalypse Now' was admitted to the cardiology unit at Tor Vergata.

The university hospital kept his health status and any information regarding planned surgical treatments confidential, as ANSA also reports.

However, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports that Francis Ford Coppola was scheduled to undergo heart surgery some time ago. Before the operation, he suffered a cardiac arrhythmia.

Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola has already reacted to his hospitalization through a post he made on his Instagram page, where he assured that "he is fine".

"Da Dada (as my children call me) is doing well, taking advantage of his time in Rome to update on my 30-year-old surgery. [...] I'm fine," the filmmaker's post reads.

Francis Ford Coppola attended the Magna Grecia Festival in mid-July to promote his latest film, 'Megalopolis,' starring Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito. This $120 million film, financed by himself, was a flop, grossing only $14 million at the box office and receiving mixed reviews.

Director Francis Ford Coppola said today that he is working on his "most ambitious" project, capable of surpassing 'Apocalypse Now', the 'Megalopolis' project, which he has had on the agenda for more than 20 years.

Last year, it's also worth remembering that footage was released showing Francis Ford Coppola forcibly kissing an extra during the filming of 'Megalopolis.' In the face of the controversy, extra Rayna Menz publicly defended the filmmaker and denied his alleged misconduct.

"He didn't do anything to make me uncomfortable," says Rayna Menz.

It is also reported that the 86-year-old director has been spending part of the summer in Italy, apparently because he is looking for locations for his next project, which is scheduled to film this fall, ANSA reports.
