Five districts under yellow warning due to heat

The district of Faro is under a yellow warning from 9:00 am this Saturday due to the heat, which will extend to Évora, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre on Sunday, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Due to the “persistence of high maximum temperature values”, the district of Faro is under a yellow warning until 9 pm on Sunday.

In the districts of Évora, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre, the alert is in effect between 9 am on Sunday and 9 pm on Monday.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.

Given the forecast of high temperatures, the Directorate-General for Health recommends that the population regularly consume water, wear loose, cool clothing and use sunscreen every two hours.

Exposure to the sun between 11:00 and 17:00 is also not recommended, and special care is requested with the elderly population, children and chronically ill people, who should remain in cooler environments and protected from the sun, according to health authorities.

The IPMA forecasts partly cloudy or clear skies for today, with morning clouds on the northern and central coast and sometimes strong winds on the western coastal strip and in the highlands. Baixo Alentejo and Algarve will record a rise in maximum temperatures.

The maximum and minimum temperatures this Saturday will vary between 34 degrees (in Faro) and 10 degrees (in Bragança).
