David Beckham is set to receive a knighthood during King Charles III's birthday celebrations.
The former England captain had already been named an Officer of the British Empire in 2003 by the late Queen Elizabeth II. And now, according to information obtained by BBC Sport, he is on the list to receive further recognition for his footballing career and contributions to British society. This list will be made public next week.
David Beckham played 115 times for his country, and also played for a number of teams including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, Paris St-Germain and AC Milan. His playing career ended in 2013.
According to The Sun, a friend said: "This is the greatest recognition for David."
"His family and friends are incredibly proud, and David himself is beyond thrilled. After all these years, he is still a mummy's boy and is delighted that his mother Sandra will be able to see this happen. It is a huge moment for the Beckham clan," he added.
