Camilla Parker Bowles is out of the picture: why won't we see the queen and wife of King Charles III in the coming weeks?

An increasingly prominent figure in British royal engagements , Camilla Parker Bowles , wife of King Charles III , has had a hectic schedule in recent years. In 2024 alone, the Queen consort attended more than 230 official engagements ... a significant number even by monarchical standards, you know!? But those hoping to see Camilla in public appearances with the royal family soon will have to wait.
Why Camilla, wife of King Charles III, in the coming weeks?
The Queen Consort has just begun her summer vacation (from there) , as has become tradition at Buckingham Palace. The destination, as usual, is Scotland—specifically, Balmoral, the late Queen Elizabeth II 's favorite vacation residence.
Charles III is now installed at the Castle of Mey in the Highlands, and even during his "recess," he continues to receive the traditional red briefcases containing government documents, as protocol dictates. But other than that, the monarch's schedule is practically empty, as is that of his wife, who has temporarily disappeared from the press and public radar.
This extended break follows a tradition established by Elizabeth II herself, who used to spend her summers at Balmoral until early September. At 76 and 78, Camilla and Charles seem determined to maintain the former monarch's rhythm.
Royal couple will be seen in occasional appearances
While in Scotland, the royal couple are expected to be seen only for occasional appearances, such as at Crathie Kirk, a church frequented by generations of the family.
