It was on the last day of July, 31, in 2023, that the world of acting lost a young star, the actor Angus Cloud, who was part of the cast of the HBO series 'Euphoria'.
Angus Cloud died of an accidental overdose, an unexpected departure. He was 25 years old at the time.
Born Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, the artist had already experienced some difficult times. At age 15, People reports, he fell into a ditch and fractured his skull, suffering mild brain damage and requiring surgery.
Angus Cloud rose to fame with the series 'Euphoria,' and his character, Fezco, was supposed to die at the end of the first season. However, creator Sam Levinson kept him because he was very fond of the actor.
"He came out with all his power, all his beauty, all his influence, and the reaction everyone had was so touching to me. He wasn't just an actor who overdosed. He had a beautiful soul, and that's why people miss him so much," the artist's mother, Lisa Cloud, commented in an interview with People in September 2023.
The day of Angus Cloud's unexpected death
After the death of actor Angus Cloud, authorities revealed to People that emergency services were called to the artist's home, where he was found dead.
His passing came a week after the 'Euphoria' star scattered his father's ashes in Ireland with his family. Conor Hickey died of cancer in May of that year.
"It is with a very heavy heart that we say goodbye to an incredible human being," the actor's family said in a statement at the time of his death. "As an artist, friend, brother, and son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways."
"The only comfort we have is knowing that Angus is now with his father, who was his best friend. Angus spoke openly about his battle with mental health, and we hope his death serves as a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not struggle in silence. We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter, and love for all," they added.
The cause of death and the moments before his passing
Almost two months after the actor's death, authorities confirmed the cause was "an accidental overdose." Toxicological tests on the young artist's body detected the presence of methamphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines.
Although the family has not forgotten Angus Cloud's struggle, especially after his father's passing, the actor's mother said his death was "not intentional" and that his last day of life "was joyful."
"He was rearranging his room and putting things around the house with the intention of staying for a while. He talked about his intention to help support his sisters through college and also to help his mother—emotionally and financially. He didn't want to end his own life," Lisa wrote in a Facebook post at the time.
"When we hugged goodnight, we told each other how much we loved each other, and he said see you tomorrow. [...] All I know is that he rested his head on the desk where he was working on his art projects, fell asleep, and never woke up," she added.
Although Angus Cloud often fell asleep at his desk while drawing, Lisa realized that something was wrong on that tragic day. She tried to revive him and "kept doing it until they took him away," as Lisa shared in a conversation with People in September 2023. "I miss him. He was the love of my life."
In the same interview, Lisa revealed the last words she heard from her son the night before his death: "I love you, Mommy. You're the best. See you tomorrow."
Angus Cloud's last role
Although his best-known project was 'Euphoria', in the role of Fezco, Angus Cloud had filmed other works before his death, such as 'Freaky Tales', released in 2024, with Pedro Pascal, and also voiced Snickers in the film 'Garfield: The Movie', which also premiered last year.
His last on-screen appearance was in the horror film 'Abigail', also released in 2024, where he played Dean.
