Why was Meryl Streep almost left out of 'The Devil Wears Prada'?
Anne Hathaway's partner was almost left out of this 2006 box office hit, which is set to get a sequel soon. The film's producer, Wendy Finerman, gave more details about the situation in an interview with the "Hollywood Gold" podcast in 2023.
At first, she said that "people thought we were crazy" - and I disagree, because the film wouldn't be the least bit funny without her, the diva Meryl!
She then continued: "People would call me and say, 'Have you lost your mind? She's never been funny in her life ! '" referring to Meryl, who once wore a famous Brazilian clothing brand in a film.
'They were wrong,' said the director
Wendy also said that the individuals "were wrong, and she was funny ", noting that "this was clearly a different kind of role for her", pointing out Streep's performance in the 2006 film.
