Italian writer launches new edition of 'Marianna Ucrìa' in Rio

Dacia Maraini will be in Rio de Janeiro, UNESCO's World Book Capital, to present the new Portuguese translation of "The Long Life of Marianna Ucrìa", published by Editora Nova Alexandria.
The Italian Institute of Culture in the capital of Rio de Janeiro announced the launch, promoting the arrival of the work. Maraini will participate in three meetings: at the National Library, on Monday (16) at 3 pm; at the Italian Institute of Culture, on June 18, at 6:30 pm; and at the Book Biennial, on the 20th, at 12 pm.
Among the author's most beloved works, the novel tells the story of a young Sicilian noblewoman from the 18th century, deaf and mute, forced into a marriage and an existence marked by isolation. In a world that excludes her, Marianna finds in books, study and writing a way to understand her destiny and recover her sense of identity.
Through Marianna's penetrating gaze, the writer explores central themes of her work: the patriarchal structure, female freedom, memory, knowledge as a form of resistance.
With clear and intense language, the novel transforms marginality into lucidity and silence into voice.
