Crato Festival kicks off today with an eclectic lineup for multiple generations

Promoted by the Crato City Council in the Portalegre district, the festival, which first took place in 1984, takes place in the town center. This year's program, which runs until Saturday, features 21 performances, including a DJ. It kicks off today, alongside the municipality's Crafts and Gastronomy Fair.
According to Lusa, the director of the event, Joaquim Diogo, highlighted the eclecticism of the lineup and argued that the Crato Festival is doing, in this edition, what it “does every year, [which] is trying to be as comprehensive as possible and cater to many musical tastes”.
"We have a way of being where we really like different generations to be able to experience different musical rhythms and new projects, so that those who visit us are surprised," he added.
The festival begins today, with "a special day of free entry for everyone, even those without a wristband," which coincides with the opening day of the 39th edition of the Crato Crafts and Gastronomy Fair, which opens at 7 p.m., according to the organizers.
The concerts begin at 9:30 pm, with Vizinhos kicking off this edition of the Crato Festival, followed by performances by Os Raíz (with special guests), Cutting Crew and Remember Old Times.
The second day, Wednesday, will be filled with hip-hop from the group Wet Bed Gang, a collective from Vialonga, Vila Franca de Xira, Plutónio, Mizzy Miles and Dadda, with Thursday reserved for Brazilian rapper Matuê, Lon3r Johny and ProfJam, Portuguese artist Jüra (Joana Silva) and DJ LK from Scotland.
Two of Friday's big names are the British band Skunk Anansie, led by the charismatic Skin, and the Portuguese band GNR, led by Rui Reininho.
On this day, a show is also scheduled that brings together Luís Trigacheiro on stage with two special guests, Diogo Piçarra and Buba Espinho, and the night closes with DJs Matcho and Ana Isabel Arroja.
The final day of the festival, on Saturday, is filled by Brazilian singer Daniela Mercury – who replaced fellow Brazilian Zé Filipe -, by Portuguese artists Fernando Daniel and Nena and, to close, Insert Coin.
In addition to the music over these five days, visitors will be able to enjoy the works on display at the 39th Crato Crafts and Gastronomy Fair.
Over the years, “internationally recognized names” have performed at the festival, such as the Beach Boys (without the Wilson brothers), The Animals, James, Scorpions and Roger Hodgson (Supertramp).
