They're fed up with tourists in swimsuits. These resorts are implementing strict rules.
The French resort of Les Sables d'Olonne will fine tourists caught topless or in swimsuits off the beach. Fines will be hefty, with fines expected to reach up to €150. "It's a matter of respect for the residents, who don't want people wandering around their city half-naked," says Mayor Yannick Moreau. Malaga, a popular destination for Poles, will also be on the lookout for visitors parading around in their undressed clothes.
An outfit for the beach, not the cityThe mayor of Les Sables d'Olonne will no longer be lenient towards tourists. Residents of the French town on the Atlantic are fed up with visitors parading around the resort center half-dressed. Women in swimsuits and shirtless men are a real nightmare. "If you want to show off your chest and your best swimming trunks in Les Sables d'Olonne, you have 11 kilometers of beach at your disposal," commented Yannick Moreau on Facebook. "It's a matter of respecting the residents and maintaining basic hygiene," the politician added.
Malaga also sets conditionsHowever, strict rules apply not only to small towns and gated communities, but also to large metropolises. Malaga authorities have published a list of ten rules intended to ensure a symbiotic relationship between tourists and residents, which are now displayed in numerous locations throughout the city, including at bus stops and on buses.
The biggest complaints against tourists are littering and excessively loud behavior. Noise should be kept to a minimum at night, and ignoring these regulations can result in fines of up to €750. A dress code has also been introduced – wearing revealing clothing is not recommended outside of the beach. While there are no penalties for violating these guidelines, the city encourages people to observe etiquette.
