The Dragon capsule with four astronauts, including Pole Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, reached the International Space Station at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Docking is complete. The next step is to open the hatches, which is scheduled to occur at approximately 2:10 p.m. The Ax-4 crew welcome ceremony to the International Space Station is scheduled to begin at 2:40 p.m.

The docking process with the ISS is the culmination of a flight lasting more than a day, which began Wednesday morning with the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The rocket carried the Dragon capsule into Earth orbit.

The rocket was launched on Wednesday at 8:31 a.m. Polish time from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida (USA). A few minutes later, at around 8:40 a.m., the capsule was in Earth orbit, at an altitude of 198 km.

During their two-week stay on the ISS, the Ax-4 crew will conduct research in microgravity conditions and engage in educational activities.

As part of the Polish technological and scientific mission IGNIS, our astronaut will conduct 13 experiments designed by Polish companies and enabling testing of new technologies and concepts in microgravity conditions. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will also perform 30 educational and popular science shows and connect with domestic shortwave operators.

The crew of the Ax-4 mission, apart from Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, consists of: an experienced former NASA astronaut, American Peggy Whitson (commander), pilot Shubhanshu Shukla from India and specialist scientist Tibor Kapu from Hungary.

Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is the second Pole in space and the first on the ISS. (PAP)
