Leonardo DiCaprio is known not only for his brilliant film roles but also for supporting numerous eco-friendly initiatives. This time, the actor faced criticism from fans after his project for a luxury eco-resort in Israel received final approval to begin construction.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a legendary actor. We know him for his brilliant roles in "Titanic," "The Wolf of Wall Street , " "The Revenant," and "Django Unchained." But the 50-year-old actor is also known for his long-standing environmental activism. Through his Re:wild Foundation, he has donated over $200 million to environmental causes worldwide.

This is certainly commendable, but it seems that the actor has now become unpopular with his fans.

As reported by the Daily Mail , the star owns a 10 percent stake in the exclusive resort, which will be built at the luxury seaside area near Tel Aviv , the Herzliya Marina.

The massive 14-story, $270 million complex will offer 365 hotel rooms , a conference center, a fine dining restaurant, a swimming pool and direct access to a marina for yachts.

Because ecology is important to DiCaprio , the project will be compliant with LEED standards developed by the U.S. Green Building Council . The investment will prioritize energy efficiency , water conservation , sustainable materials use , and indoor environmental quality .

But that's not the reason for the negative reviews about the project. It's, of course, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict .

And although the project was already discussed in 2018, it was only when it was implemented by the Israeli group Hagag that it received final approval from the Tel Aviv District Planning and Construction Committee .

The vast majority of Leonardo DiCaprio's fans consider the hotel construction project to be detached from reality and even repulsive given the current situation in Israel and the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip.

"Oh my god. Weak move. I'm not going to watch anything with him anymore," wrote one Reddit user.

Some people believe that the actor's environmental activities were just a pose, similar to when the actor evacuated Los Angeles on a private plane during the tragic fires in January .
