An unusual sight on the Baltic Sea. A new part of Poland has changed shape.

Tourists coming to the Baltic Sea in autumn aren't missing out; quite the opposite, in fact. Those who recently took a stroll along the beach in Mikoszewo were able to see this for themselves.
Mikoszewski Headland after the change"The Mikoszewski Peninsula has turned into a lake," the Facebook account Na Mierzeję reported a few days ago. It showed aerial shots of the new "piece" of Polish land. Water had collected in the sandy peninsula, completely changing the appearance of the place.
The Mikoszewski Promontory became a tourist attraction in Pomerania at the turn of 2024 and 2025, having been built up by the forces of waves and sea currents. It is located on the eastern side of the Vistula River mouth. It is best accessed from entrance number 88, the Mikoszewo parking lot – beach.
Some are pleased with the development of this area, while others are concerned. Ornithologists who manage the Mewia Łacha reserve fear that the new piece of land may connect with a remote island. This could pose a threat to birds and seals resting in the reserve.
"It's only a dozen or so meters from there to Mewia Łacha," ornithologist Andrzej Szermej told the website zawszepomorze.pl. "And that's exactly what we should focus on, because Mewia Łacha is an absolutely unique natural site!" he emphasized.
Lake Mikoszewskie nearbyNot far from the new "lake" is Lake Mikoszewskie. It was formed in the 1960s as a result of the closure of a sandbar growing from the north. Today, it is a natural home for many bird species found in the reedbeds, such as the great reed warbler, the great reed warbler, the sedge warbler, the grey heron, and the coot.
The diversity of this stretch of the Polish coast can be surprising. "While in Jantar, I ran through the forest to Mikoszewo and was in three places at once. I ran along the river, reached the sea, and had the lake behind me," wrote one tourist about his visit there.
