More universities have announced their lists of applicants for medical and dental studies. These are traditionally the most popular fields, with over 30 applicants sometimes applying for a single spot. We checked with the universities to determine the entry thresholds and when the next ranking lists are scheduled to be published.
The Medical University of Silesia (SUM) has recorded the highest number of applicants for a single position in the medical program at its Bielsko-Biała branch. As many as 31 people are applying for a single position (registration is open until August 1st).
Apart from the branch, the most popular courses are medicine and dentistry, with 12 people per place, physiotherapy (8 people per place), and medical biotechnology and the medicine courses in Zabrze and Katowice (7 people per place each).
After the first ranking list for medicine was announced, the point threshold for admission to the first year of studies was 164 points (including 70 points in biology in the secondary school leaving examination) out of a maximum of 200.
The ranking lists for part-time studies at the Medical University of Silesia will be announced on August 14th of this year, and for full-time and part-time second-cycle studies on August 8th of this year. In turn, at the Bielsko-Biała Branch, they will be announced only after August 15th of this year.
This year's admissions statistics at the Medical University of Lodz also show that the medical and dental program is leading the way. Nineteen people applied for a spot there. The medical and medical analytics programs also enjoyed consistent popularity. The former had 12 applicants per spot, and the latter had 11. Five candidates competed for the medical program index, which is offered under a contract with the Ministry of National Defense. The entry thresholds for medicine, following the publication of the first list, were 332 points out of 400 (medical) and 270/39.50 (medical MON), while for dentistry, it was 320 points.
Nearly five candidates applied for a single place in medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow . A total of 1,243 students registered and paid the application fee. The last candidate accepted for admission scored 80 points out of a possible 100. For the medical-dental program, 687 candidates applied, yielding a ratio of 12.05 per place.
At the Nicolaus Copernicus University Medical College, 4,116 applicants registered for medical studies. There were 240 places available, meaning 17 candidates competed for a single place. The point threshold for those accepted was 81.15 out of 100, and for those on the reserve list, it was 78.85. Dentistry, on the other hand, was the most popular, with 31.6 candidates per place (the limit was 48 places).
Up to 24 people per seat. Medicine is also a hit at non-medical universities.Medical programs were also among the top non-medical universities. At the University of Warsaw, which is only in its third year of teaching medicine, 24 candidates applied for a single place in medical studies. After the first list, the cutoff point for the program was 85.34 points.
The University of Rzeszów and the University of Opole also attracted the highest number of applicants for the medical program. At the former, there were 20 applicants per student (2,182 applicants), while at the latter, there were 19.5 . The entry point requirement for medicine at the University of Opole was 169 out of 200 possible points. The university will announce the next lists on July 28 and 31.
Importantly, the data regarding the point thresholds will change throughout the admissions process. As subsequent lists of accepted candidates are published, they will begin to decrease, and this will continue until the limit is reached. Graduates typically apply to several or a dozen universities simultaneously. As a result, sometimes as many as 30 to 40 percent of candidates who qualified for medical school in the first round of applications will have their spots vacated. It's also important to remember that each university individually determines the matriculation exam score conversion factor for admissions. Therefore, some universities allow a maximum of 200 points, while others allow 300 or 100. This all depends on the algorithm adopted by the school.
