Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is already in Poland. A few minutes after 11 a.m. on Thursday, a special plane carrying the Polish astronaut landed at Chopin Airport in Warsaw.
A press conference for our astronaut is scheduled immediately after arrival. In the afternoon, he will meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Prime Minister's Chancellery, where they will then meet with the media.
Around 100 people are waiting for the astronaut in the arrivals hall, including children with Polish flags, banners, T-shirts with an eagle, and IGNIS mission posters. The event was organized by astronomy popularizer Karol Wójcicki, creator of the fanpage "Z głowy w gwiazdach," who has been encouraging participation online for several days.
Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is an ESA project astronaut, the second Pole in space after Mirosław Hermaszewski, and the first Polish citizen to set foot on the International Space Station (ISS). His Ax-4 mission launched on June 25th. In addition to the Pole, it included American Peggy Whitson, Hungarian Tibor Kapu, and Indian pilot Shubhanshu Shukla. On June 26th, the Dragon Grace capsule carrying four astronauts docked with the ISS, and the astronauts returned to Earth on July 15th.
Since July 16, the Polish astronaut has been in Cologne, home to ESA's European Astronaut Centre. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) "Envihab," while the ESA space medicine team monitored his health and condition. (PAP)
